Hello

Has anyone got any experience of buying cameras from Pixmania.
There is no current thread on this.
Pixmania give an extra years warranty on cameras, has anyone had to
claim on the warranty and is the extended warranty any good?

This is mentioned a lot on this group. Have a search on google groups.

From what I can recall, there has been some issues with them.
They are based in France so tend to sell grey imports so not sure about the
warranty.

Hello

Thanks for the reply.
A lot of the stuff on Google is few years old.
I am looking for some current experiences.

Where?

In Europe they are known for looong delivery, real availability
not matching what they state and weird and annoying requirements
for credit card verifications (faxing passport, driver license etc).
A few of my friends had this experience and I personally
have decided to ignore Pixmania in the future.

In the U.S. I have no idea.

I ordered a camera from them (Netherlands) and it arrived within two days,
complete and in fine working order. (But with a French manual, which isn't
a problem for me, but might be a nasty surprise for others, although I was
allowed one download of an English language pdf manual.) It was cheap and I
have no problems (so far).

Hi Mike,

I've placed 4 orders with them for photo equipment and accessories.

Each time I did it appeared they were saying the items were in stock,
but after the orders were accepted, I received an email from them
saying that they were out of stock and couldn't give me a firm
availability date.

I cancelled all 4 orders and have never been back since.

I would advise you to give them a wide berth.

Bye for now.

Don't touch them, they're absolute bloody crap.

I ordered a camera from them a couple of years ago, paid the extra for
overnight delivery, and it arrived a week later (following numerous phone
calls and emails). They refused to refund the overnight delivery payment
and then when it finally arrived it was a grey with a weird plug on the
charger and NOT the promised UK version.

They are thieving crooks. I wouldn't buy the time of day from them. YMMV
but caveat emptor.

Looking at the replies you have had, I see nothing has changed in several
years ;o)

Hello

I guess that I should act on the advice given here and keep away.

Thanks

I had a similar experience to Helen and the others. Having said that, I
could download a manual in English from the Web, and having the French
mains plug was an advantage for European travel. The actual camera, a
black Panasonic FZ5, was not obtainable elsewhere at the time, and has
continued to work well since. I would prefer to buy elsewhere another
time.
