Default Just a pretty moth

I am currently working with an Olympus C5000 Zoom, which, for a PS
camera and the work that I do, is more than sufficient.

I am also an avid geocacher, and last fall I found a cocoon attached
to one of my geocache containers. I removed the cocoon, brought it
home, set it on my nightstand and forgot about it, until last night,
when it began stirring...

So I set up the camera on a tripod, hoping to get time-lapse photos of
the moth emerging. But I fell asleep, and did not notice that the moth
had emerged until I came home from work today. I just wanted to share
the photo of this beautiful animal. I am going to release the moth as
soon as this cold spell blows over. You can glean the technical
details yourself, but I was more than happy with what this camera gave
me:

Beautiful. Antheraea polyphemus, or Polyphemus moth. It has a large
green caterpillar. Are you in the southern US? They should be coming
out about now there, through May. Another batch of them in July-
August.

Polyphemus was the one-eyed cyclops in The Odyssey. Furry guy. You
almost want to pet him.

I am around Chicago. I think the fact that I had the cocoon inside
the house is why it has maybe come out a bit early.

Yes, it is a lovely insect.
