Isn't there anybody in this ng as serious about photography as they are
about owning equjipment, TRYING to be clever and putting each other down?

Seriously, I feel I'm amongst a bunch of bickering kids here. There are
obviously people here who who know a great deal about equipment and like
to spout off about it, but photography is about emotion and that is lost
to them. Equipment is really second, distantly.

Reminds me of a camera club I belonged to in high school. All they did
was talk about whether the pictures had obvious grain and what equipment
was used. I asked whether Hemmingway talked about his typewriter all the
time, but that was lost on them. I see here who some of them grew up to
be as "adults": people who would rather own stuff, "win" an argument
here, and be "clever", than make photographs. JPBill

hint
most of the gearbators here sell Canon gear
either as a main line of business or as a side dish.

Why would I lie?

You're asking *me* why you lie?
Jeeez....
As for the "d3", you admitted to
using a 40d back in February, IIRC.

And what happened to that 5dm2?

I'd like to have a dollar for every dollar I've spent on Canon stuff.

They love suckers like you...

You're just saying that because you have a really tiny lens! My lens is
really, really big and long!
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

You are absolutely right. My personal favorite is the "25 Reasons to Choose
a P&S camera". I think that thread could even survive having the name
'Hitler' attached to it (For newbies to Usenet, in the old days, it was said
that to kill a thread, you just responded to it with 'hitler', and the
thread would die.). Your Hemmingway analogy is especially good- I get it.
The newsgroup is limited by the fact that it's a text-only medium; it's
difficult to discuss photographs when you can't post them. Althugh when
someone posts a link to their work, I usually do check it out. It's also
difficult to talk about the "emotion" of a photograph in a text medium. But
I think that the technical aspects of a photograph have a lot to do with
that emotion. For example, a portrait with obvious grain may have a
different 'feel' to it than one that is smooth as silk. Also, a photo taken
by one photographer with a typical Holga may have a different feel than if
the same photographer had used the best quality Canon/Nikon/Hasselblad/etc.
And, the newsgroup is supposed to be for the discussion of 35mm photo
_equipment_, rather than photographs.

Now can we get back to the "25 reasons" thread? I am in mood for some really
boring, childish, inane comments!

This is one of only 3 comments to this thread that aren't filtered out
from my view :-) a necessity in these groups.

I probably take more pics than 99% of the people here, but so what?
This is an EQUIPMENT newsgroup, ya know.

Bingo! Wait till the 5D2 arrives and we'll be seeing some video footage.

I'm with you on that, should be interesting to say the least :-)

The interesting thing is gonna be how I'm ever gonna edit the footage.

Dual Xeon procs on a Supermicro MB.

Wait until he edits every image of the video.
Or rather: don't. You'll be old before he finishes

What, you think that I'm shooting with a noisy A900 or something?

BTW I'll be removing the photo tonight or tomorrow as this really
isn't my
style. I have nothing against you, Son.

'sOK, dude. No offense taken, it was funny.
The crossposting wasn't and that was pointed out.

But I still reckon you should have added a piece
of fruit: apparently, that's what "proper" gear
photography needs.

Well ****, I thought YOU were buying it for me?

I have some 5D2 video files now and my system stutters like Mel Tillis
in confession.

My Matrox Millenium P650 card will output up to 1920x1440, but that's
more than my current monitor will accept. The thought was that a more
powerful video card (with more memory on it) would ease the burden
somewhat. However, I may be bumping up against the limits of the AGP
interface.
Sux to be me.

Ditch the Matrox and get one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=110295377889
I got that one for my son's puter, he's got an AGP as well.
It flies. He plays WOW and a number of other high rez games
on it, as well as lots of videos and dvds: not a single stutter.
