Fuji includes Frame Stacking in FinePix S200EXR--Any other camerasdo this out of the box?
The new FinePix S200EXR has a feature called "Pro Low-light Mode" which
does automatic frame stacking and processing of four frames in order to achieve noise levels that rival that of a D-SLR. This seems like a good, if brute-force, method of solving the high noise issue at higher ISO's of small sensor cameras. Does anyone else do this sort of thing out of the box (not after-market firmware)? |

I guess it's also useful on a D-SLR, but on a P&S with a small sensor it really could help deal with noise problems at high ISO. It shouldn't be too hard to do, assuming that you don't have to re-focus between the frames since they're taken in such quick succession. |

But if there's time to take four successive shots at a high ISO so they can be stacked, why isn't there time to take one shot of four times the length of exposure at a quarter of the ISO? -- Chris Malcolm |

Not that this is the reason, but if there's too much subject or camera movement, the faster shutter speed would help, assuming that the camera helps out by aligning the images on the subject, rather than the easy way, on the frame. But it still smells like a gimmick. |
