Any company which equates dollar and pound prices is simply
money-grabbing. If this no longer applies to Adobe, it's about time.
I gave up purchasing their products because of their pricing policy,

yet you haven't given up microsoft products for having a similar policy.

and
whilst I can see the benefits of a subscription policy from a revenue
flow point of view, it's not a road I wish to go down as a customer.

subscription based software may not be for everyone but it isn't just
for revenue flow. there are very clear and useful benefits to
end-users.

it's also the way the industry is going, so you're going to end up with
very little (and mostly crippled) software.

your loss.

As others have said, you can delay the reboot after Windows updates, or
even delay the installation altogether. Having said that, though.....

- if all other software works
- Adobe software does not

seems pretty obvious to whom your questions should be directed.

not necessarily.

the windows update could have broken an api call that only adobe
software uses.

only after looking into specifically what went wrong can someone make a
determination who is at fault. often it's not just one entity.

You
would have hoped the money guzzlers like Adobe would have been more on
top of the game.

adobe is very on top of the game.

But next time, it may be wiser to wait a week before installing the updates.

if updates are automatic, then you don't get to decide when.

No it didn't. You had to have had some sort of auto-update enabled.

It's not quite that simple. MS is going to update your computer, and
you're going to like it!!!

But there's this:

I haven't bothered with any of that yet, mainly because I haven't had
any real problems with the updates so far.

Me neither. I just keep saying no to the Win10 nag.

that's how windows 10 works.

it's possible to defer it but that would be stupid, especially now, on
the verge of threshold being released.

According to you, everyone who doesn't like Win10 is stupid, regardless
of their reason. .

I find it's rather like the curate's egg: "parts of it are excellent".
http://wordsmith.org/words/images/curates_egg_large.jpg

I find it hasn't set recovery points.

Creation of a disk image, maybe backup and restore seem to have
vanished, although I believe they may be there somewhere. Attempts to
invoke them from "Search the web and Windows" leads mostly to Google
but sometimes to Bing.

I'm only starting to discover this kind of thing since I laid may
hands on "Windows 10 - The missing manual". To make life even more
difficult, what I get on myscreen is often very different from what
the Missing Manual leads me to expect. Windows 10 seems to be very
much a work in progress.

Suddenly now, without any announcement, Light Room works.

I have no explanation other than another surreptitious upgrade from
Microsoft (yes, they do do these things).

Or from Adobe!

Quite often, though, things which don't work on the first or second
attempt may work after a day or two. Pleased it's fixed.

which would have made it microsoft's bug, contrary to the other person
who blindly blames adobe for everything.
