Monopod - Bigest bang for the buck!!!
"fordcrew" wrote in message ups.com... What is the best featured, most durable, easiest, and quickest to operate monopod for the $$, on the market? Why? "The Best" is definately an individual thing. First the correct monopod will be dependant on the distnace between your eye and the ground (and the size of your camera). So what works for one of us is wrong for another. Second what camera you will be using is important. A stick that can easily support a pocketable P&S may have problems with a DSLR, and even more if the DSLR is sporting a large, heavy super telephoto lens. Then your shooting style makes a difference. Some of us work fine with a head that simply tilts up and down but no pan or side tilt. Other people will need these. Then how it feels in your hand makes a difference. The only suggestion I will make is to concider getting one with a good solid Quick Release head so that you don't have to carry the camera attached to the stick all the time. Personally I installed the same make and model of QR head on both my mono and tripod so that I can swap the camera around easily. So if you try to envision what you want to do with this monopod, and how you want to use it, and waht equipment you want to use it with, this will reduce the vast numbers of choices to a possibly manageable few. If you then have questions about choosing between a few models, you can ask here for personal experiences to help you decide. Randy |

I do mostly nature photography (insects and plants) with a Canon XT, and I have been successfully using a Vanguard MP-15 for several years. I attached a carrying strap to it, and removed the wire triangle from the bottom. At the time, Amazon was selling it for $29.99. Barry in Indy |

I have two, a small light one for small light cameras, and a big heavy one for big heavy cameras. -- Chris Malcolm DoD #205 IPAB, Informatics, JCMB, King's Buildings, Edinburgh, EH9 3JZ, UK [http://www.dai.ed.ac.uk/homes/cam/] |

It folds up in any pocket and is more stable than any monopod on the market. Get 13-14 ft. strap of lightweight 1" wide nylon strap/webbing. Mount a short 1/4-20 bolt in the center (center from end to end). when you need extra stability for your camera unroll the strap from your pocket. Attach the bolt to your tripod socket. Let both ends of the strap drop to the ground. Stand on each end and pull UP on the camera. It's not just a monopod it's a bipod. Stabilizing your camera in 2 dimensions instead of just one. It doesn't get more cost-effective, quick, reliable, compact, and stable than that. |
