Imagine you're working in the studio, or out on the sports field and
whatever shots you are taking are downloaded not to a Compact Flash

card,
but directly to your computer via a high speed, wireless connection of
some sort.

Wouldn't *that* be cool?

Take a look at this:
http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/336/C2502/

What I wonder is where the antenna goes.....On top of your head?

Its base looks like it would fit nicely on that little button on the top of
a baseball cap... G

That's great...so long as nobody in your office, home, or studio is goofing
around with your computer...there's no power outage...no virus attack while
you're across the country...no "rolling blackout" occurs in power-strapped
areas...and you have 100%, postively unquestionable faith that everyone's
network between the sports field in New York and your studio in California
is 100% free of glitches, attacks, slow-downs, or any other of thousands of
problems you would be completely unaware of...as you happily--yet perhaps
foolishly-- snap away on a key shoot.

Then... You get home...
If you find that ANY of the above went wrong (which is not even a little bit
unlikely), you are...
S
C
R
E
W
E
D
..

No on-site back-ups...
No plan B...
Nothing.

Nah...
It won't be attractive for a long...long time, if ever.
That would be the technical equivalent of NEVER saving your documents at
your home computer, and ONLY using stranger's networks to save and hold your
precious data...relying COMPLETELY on their "faithfulness."
Count me out.

It's an interesting idea, but no thanks.

Well, they've already built cameras into cell phones.....So why not build
cell phones into cameras?

That's one thing.
Relying SOLELY on transmission for data storage without in-camera, or
on-site back-up would be just downright foolish.
Neat idea, but then so was cold fusion a few years ago.

Doesn't the Nikon D1x (or similar) have a wifi/ftp adaptor to screw on the
bottom???
