Default Olympus C-7070 Noise tests

Hi All,

I've placed an article up on my site with noise tests of the C-7070 to
join those of the E-330. The article is at
http://www.dimagemaker.com/article.php?articleID=525.

RAW files are available for download off of the following page
http://www.dimagemaker.com/specials/cameras/camtests.php

Cheers,

Wayne

Wonderful Wayne, another set of tests that really don't mean a lot. How
about an evaluation of what the photos look like when printed at various
sizes?

I hear so much crap about measuring noise and you know what, a lot of the
time it just doesn't matter a lot to lots of folks. What they really want to
know is that on their crappy little P&S or mind bogglingly expensive package
can they take the shot at 800ISO and then get a decent print at 6x4 or 8x10
or whatever,???

How many people will actually download the RAW files and do an actual
comparison themselves with other photos and would it actually mean anything
if they did?

Cheers.

You call that a review? Noise tests don't mean a thing without stating
how many pixels there are.

Speaking of which, I hope that's at least an 8MP camera because those
photos have fat gobs of noise filtering damage.

Ok, now I don't get it. If I do a review as such, people complain they
want to see the RAW files. I give people 100% sectional JPEGs and they
can download the RAW files if they want, and you want the specs, which
other people say they don't need because they have already seen them at
Olympus' web site or on dpreview or whatever.

It is a 7.1MP camera.

I've been making the RAW files available because a lot of people want
to look for themselves. And since there is a lot of activity with older
cameras (like the C-7070) I've decided to start making all these RAW
files available as a service if people want them.

Cheers,

Wayne

HI Pete,

Well people ask for the RAW files, so I am making them available. From
the download stats I'd say quite a few want the data to make up their
own minds.

Re your claim that print size is what people really want to know, I am
not so sure, and it still ends up being very subjective. What looks
good to me on my printer may not look great on another or to another.
Photogs are funny creatures and some are more critical than others. It
also vastly depends on the type of photography you do and subject
matter. So to do something meaningful here you would need to print,
say, 3 different types of images on a current HP, Canon and Epson, for
9 combinations minimum. Plus which Epson, HP or Canon model do you
choose? I look forward to seeing your tests.

Cheers,

Wayne
