Default Need recommendation - 67mm circular polarizer.

I am looking at buying a 67mm circular polarizer for my Nikon D70. Any
recommendations ? I am considering a Heliopan or a Nikon but wanted to know
if there are any less expensive options that are not so bad in quality.

Do polarizers cause a faint vignette? If so, is it a good idea to buy a
67mm to 77mm step-up ring and then use a 77mm circular polarizer to reduce
the vignette ?

Thanks in Advance
Venugopal Jey

There are polarisers that don't have a filter thread on the front and thus
are "thinner" and less likely to cause vignetting.

A polarizer doesn't neccesarilly cause a vignette, but may, in
particular on wide angle lenses (or at the wide end of a fairly
wide zoom like a 28-70).

The vignetting is usually at wide open aperture will be present
for a stop or two (model dependant).

To help prevent this (or at least reduce it), remove any current
filter you might have for protective use (UV or Skylight).

Your idea of a step ring has merit as they are fairly thin and
will get the thick part of the pol further away from the edges of
the lens ... the polarizer may be consequently more expensive.

Cheers,
Alan

My polarizers are not thin and nor do they have threads on the front.
