It can be a good complement, if you do sports photography (for example),
the x1,6 crop factor can be helpfull !

No. It's for 35mm format camera equipment from which most DSLR
cameras are derived.

Digital SLR shooters have rec.photo.digital and
rec.photo.digital.slr-systems. Why do they need to come to this group
as well?

To prevent any sensible discussion about film photogtaphy, of course!

If you try to discuss film here, they wade in with ludicrous
statements such as "film is dead" and "digital is better", neither of
which are true! But it has the desired effect, and cuts short any
discussion about film.

There are other good film forums that you can sign up to use, such as
the Analog Photography Users Group:

Thanks.

This newsgroup is for 35mm film photography.

It was......but has adapted to the real world where 35mm film today is
almost non existing!

In general, to devote a whole newsgroup to one particular type of
photographic sensing plane is pretty restrictive.....Basically, there is
little difference between 35 mm cameras and small hand held digital
cameras....They both produce the same results, and require the same
auxiliary equipment (lenses, tripods, carry bags, and etc.) in order to
get those results. What does it matter whether a photograph I see on my
computer was taken with film and then digitized by a film scanner, or
whether it was digitized directly inside the camera? In either case, I
can't see it on my computer unless it is digitized by something, somewhere
along the way. And, should I not want digitized photos, then I would be
restricted to living at my local camera store, which is about what my
father had to do.

You should have written this response to "Yoshi"......and not to me.
I don't care how the final output is created (film or digital).

I was responding to this statement:
"This newsgroup is for 35mm film photography"
