Sony Carl Zeiss 135 f/1.7 -- too sharp?
Wide open (f/1.7, 1/800, open shade, WB@7500K, from RAW, Maxxum 7D, ISO 100) Unsharp maks... note the staircase in the middle, back petal. This is apparent in the RAW file as well. See last linked image [W/O sharpening]) Downsampled http://www.aliasimages.com/images/CZ...ICT5234SML.jpg 201K Full size http://www.aliasimages.com/images/CZ...rsPICT5234.jpg 761K Section at full size http://www.aliasimages.com/images/CZ...CT5234Sect.jpg 282K and that's on a 6 Mpix camera. If Sony does a 12+ Mpix camera ... (Note: focusing this thing is a challenge). Is this lens *too* sharp for a 6 mpix? http://www.aliasimages.com/images/CZ...4Staircase.jpg Cheers, Alan. -- -- r.p.e.35mm user resource: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpe35mmur.htm -- r.p.d.slr-systems: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpdslrsysur.htm -- [SI] gallery & rulz: http://www.pbase.com/shootin -- e-meil: Remove FreeLunch. |

The issue appears to be the angle (45 degrees) not the sharpness of the lens. Get out some sharp edges and shoot them at various angles to confirm. JIm |

Sony Carl Zeiss 135 f/1.8 -- too sharp?

Didn't notice that the RAW import sharpening was on; I usually have it at 0 to save sharpening for a last step before saving/printing. So there is no -over sharp- issue ... how could there be? Sony Carl Zeiss 135 f/1.7 -- too sharp?

Links don't work... Various reasons, anyway problem fixed ... sharpening in CS3 RAW import. Turn it to "0" and the problem is solved. Image is this one: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?p...195464&size=lg (which is about 35% of the original shot). http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?p...198220&size=lg is a nicer photo...
