Default dslr video out to CRT (not to TV)

I have a Canon 350D (digital rebel) and want to view the photos I'm taking on an
external CRT (computer monitor) that is not connected to a computer. That is, be
able to see the images live on the CRT as the pic is taken, just as one would
when taking the pics through a computer. I thought I may be able to use a
converter between the supplied RCA cable and the VGA monitor connection.
Specifically this item http://www.trianglecables.com/1footvgadbma.html.

Is this even possible or do I have to get a laptop to see my picturs as I take
them?

thanks,
warren

the 350D has only composite out, so that adapter should work, but the
picture quality will be crap, nothing like you will see on a monitor
with an image program.

my 26" Hi-def LCD tv can have the camera plugged in direct, and the
pictures are crap

That looks like it converts PC-VGA video to TV video - the opposite of what you
want...

There is a device to convert TV to PC-VGA but it costs $100... it's called
LCDTV from Kworld... I use one to transfer a DVD player signal out to an old
monitor for video editing. It's a bit fuzzy... but useful for what I do.

But if your camera outputs a TV signal, just buy a TV... some LCD monitors have
a TV video input.

A laptop would be better, but costs a lot more... and you may not get signal
transfer, depends on the camera software and the laptop. I don't know the
Canon...
