I have been using it for sometime and i like it a lot. Once you get a little
used to it, it's easy to prefer it to many other applications.

I especially like the scale/rescale image function that allows you to set both
the size and dpi in one dialog.

One annoyance is the open/save file dialog but easily overcome if you put your
images in a near-root (e.g. D:\AAGIMP\) folder rather than go through folders.

I haven't used photoshop for a long time. I'm sure it's a fine app but I just
like the interface of the gimp a little more, which i find pretty simple,
especially in the GIMP 2, eventhough many who are used to photoshop complain
about it. What I like about the GIMP is that it'll always be available to me,
in its latest version, and I can use it on many platforms and as many computers
as i want. I just haven't had a compelling need to pay for the cost of
photoshop or endure its complexity.

You may find the Gimp optional plugins registry useful. I haven't had a need
for it but it's nice to know it exists.
