Default Tripod: Velbon Maxi or Bogen 718 or ... ?

I'm looking to buy a tripod for about 125, and these two (Velbon
MAXI347GB, Bogen 718B)seem to fit what I want:

1) Small, Light, Portable
2) OK Height (I am 6'2)

How stable are these? I shoot 35mm (Penax LX) but I rarely use a lens
longer than 50mm. Sometimes I'll pull out an 80-200 zoom but most of
the time I am using small lenses.

Will these tripods hold up in the field? Will they last, will they
break?

Anything else you can recommend would be good too.
Thanks
