Default Possible to Repair Canon S45 Display Screen?

18 month old Canon Powershot S45 suddenly has a broken display screen.
No known cause, not dropped, left in direct sunlight, etc. Just get
ugly gray with black spot across top. Display not working at all but
the camera still does take pictures. There is no access to the menus
however without the display screen so the camera realistically only
works in auto mode.

Anyone know if this can be repaired (at a price that makes enough
sense to avoid replacing)? My guess is it can but will cost close to
the price of the camera.

A friend of mine has an S45 which was in his pocket when he laid down on the
ground to check a very low level shot. His keys pressed against the screen
and it cracked. Ooops.

He sent it of to Cannon in the UK who repaired it and returned it good as
new. It wasn't very old at the time and was an economical repair job. At 18
months old that might not be the case for you, but it has to be worth
phoning and asking.
