Lubitel Mysteries
So I've reverted to using a Lubitel to feed the rollfilm habit.
Light leaks. Sub-optimal lenses. questionable focusing. However, the most mysterious thing: the top 1/3 of the frame is massively underexposed--by as much as a stop, and I can't think why it would be so. Examples: http://members.cox.net/luigi12081/Im...airfax/Fairfax Police Motorcycle.jpg/ http://members.cox.net/luigi12081/Im...airfax/Fairfax cannon.jpg Theories? -Luigi www.livejournal.com/users/ouij Blog. I got no theory, but just two notes: first of all, when you get to look at the camera, it's the bottom of the film frame (what you see at the top of the print is actually at the bottom of the frame, the film is feed "upside down", or, IOW, the picture inside the camera is inverted) and second, it's _over_exposed, not underexposed. It is the lighter part you're talking about, yes? Just $0.04 |

However, the most mysterious thing: the top 1/3 of the frame is massively underexposed--by as much as a stop, and I can't think why it would be so. It looks like a band of overexposure. Is part of the inside of the camera shiny where is should be matte black? If there is a shiny area on the bottom inside of your camera you would get something very similar to what I'm seeing in your pictures. If this is the case, then flocking paper or matte paint should fix it. Peter. -- |

[...] h'mm. haven't checked internal reflectivity yet. suggestions on how to paint the interior? You could use matte black paint found in all hobby stores, but make sure to use a very thin layer. Better yet, don't paint, but take a very fine sandpaper to the existing paint and dull it (very light pressure is needed, don't strip it) V |

You could either use Krylon Ultra Flat Black spray paint (but carefully mask the lens first) or get some black flocking paper with a self adhesive backing. The flocking paper is probably better. -- Brian Reynolds | "But in the new approach, as you know, | the important thing is to understand http://www.panix.com/~reynolds/ | what you're doing rather than to get NAR# 54438 | the right answer." -- Tom Lehrer |
