OK! This morning I went back to the mechanical shutter after
yesterday's weird ES effect. I shot these at 1/3200, ISO 1600. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1295663/Demo/_DSF3683.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1295663/Demo/_DSF3697.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1295663/Demo/_DSF3681.jpg -- Regards, Savageduck |

In both of them, there's a somewhat out-of-focus bird in front of what appears to be the main / centered subject. -- Joe Makowiec http://makowiec.org/ Email: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe Usenet Improvement Project: http://twovoyagers.com/improve-usenet.org/ |

Have you tried this yet with a smaller aperture, just to see how many birds you can get in focus while still using a high shutter speed, and a low enough ISO to get about the same IQ? There's no actual purpose, just curious how far you can push things with that gear. |

In both of them, there's a somewhat out-of-focus bird in front of what appears to be the main / centered subject. I think that has to do with the AF-C with the Fujifilm "Zone Tracking". I was deliberately trying to lock on a bird in motion rather than one which had already settled. So the actual focus point(s) were constantly moving within the zone once the target bird had been selected. That also dictated my use of a high shutter speed. -- Regards, Savageduck |

I suspect there will be a sweet spot (in good light) somewhere in the 1/2000-1/4000, and f/8-f/11 range. I have been shooting these with Auto ISO with an ISO 200 base and ISO 1600 cap. All of the shots taken this morning ended up at ISO 1600, the shots I took yesterday, also at Auto ISO 200-1600, ended up as a mix of ISO 800, ISO 1250, & ISO 1600. I will probably also use Auto ISO 3200 in these trials. -- Regards, Savageduck |

That's what I was most curious about. |
