Can images that have been deleted from a Compact Flash card be recovered?

Yes, Photorescue which costs to register plus there are many others
including some that are freeware, but you'll have to search for those or
wait for someone else to respond. You can use PhotoRescue to check
images would be recoverable before registering.

I would assume that if the card has been reformatted, that all signs of any
files is probably gone?

I would assume that if the card has been reformatted, that all signs of any
files is probably gone?

Yes and No. If the format writes 1s or 0s to every memory location during
the card format, they are hosed. I'm not positive if this happens with
memory cards. The format is so quick, it seems as if it just clearing the
FAT.

If only the FAT is changed there may be advanced software that finds the
start and finish code of the file to recover it. Perhaps the software others
mentioned can do this.

NOT TRUE. Formatting does not erase anything, normally, but only
removes all directory entries, and zeros out the FAT table. Rescue
programs can still recover data from formatted cards.
