Gaining (or lossing) grades on a FB paper
"Rodin" wrote in message ... Hi everybody! Just a little question: In your opinion, what is the tolerance of a fixed grade FB paper? I mean, how is it possible (having a good developing control and using i.e. a two bath developer) to push or pull the contrast of a FB paper? Thanks in advance Lorenzo No more than about +/- half a grade, depending on the paper. Printing paper is developed for its maximum density. This pretty much establishes the contrast. This is unlike film which is only partially developed. Film is developed to reach a given contrast rather than its maximum density, so there is lots of range for varying the contrast. If paper is developed for lower contrast it won't have good blacks. However, there is still some range of variation by adjusting exposure and development. Some developers will give slightly lower contrast. The old Kodak Selectol Soft was good for maybe 1/2 grade less contrst than, say, Dektol. -- --- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles, CA, USA |
