Good results with Oly 4/3rds compared to Canon EF lenses?
In article 45b9ce3a$0$13570$5a62ac22@per-qv1-newsreader-
01.iinet.net.au, Joan says... What about CA? Chromatic aberrations have no impact on noise or white balance. Besides lenses of good quality have low CA levels. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 7070, 8080, E300, E330, E400 and E500 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ Olympus E330 resource - http://myolympus.org/E330/ |

Agree with noise, but lenses certainly have an effect on color. What impact do lenses have on colour, assuming the lenses are of good quality with low enough aberrations? -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 7070, 8080, E300, E330, E400 and E500 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ Olympus E330 resource - http://myolympus.org/E330/ |

The glass have self colour and chromatic corrections can alter colour in your images, even if everything else is perfect a lens can still disappoint. -- Neil Reverse 'r' and 'a', delete 'l' for email. |

Lenses are made with glass of different color. Especially if they're from different manufacturers in widely separated years. (The lenses for one camera-system from one manufacturer are generally reasonably uniform in color rendition.) I don't mean really blatant "bright red" types of different colors, but differences that can be measured and even seen quite easily. |

I've never noticed this, but the Sony R1 I'm using now has a red colour cast. Not sure if it is the CCD, the electronics or the glass. Anyway, I easily correct this during RAW conversion. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 7070, 8080, E300, E330, E400 and E500 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ Olympus E330 resource - http://myolympus.org/E330/ |

news:l%muh.9832$dk1.2960@trndny03... Edge to edge...what? The finished digital image. If you are talking about cropped, finished images, I'd have to say, in this case, and without seeing examples, that the fault lies with the operator. Oly has a stellar reputation for glass, Canon's best lenses are among the best in the world. Since you don't say what lenses were being used, or even what cameras, only brands, it is impossible to answer your question with any accuracy. I'm talking about UNCROPPED digital images initially produced by the cameras without ANY editing being done. You said "FINISHED DIGITAL IMAGE"!! (See, I can yell, too.) Still, it is impossible to answer the question without knowing what lenses, camera bodies, internal processing, etc. were used, or without seeing examples. -- Skip Middleton www.shadowcatcherimagery.com www.pbase.com/skipm |

I'm talking about UNCROPPED digital images initially produced by the cameras without ANY editing being done. Still too many possible variables... -Were both using the right WB setting? -Were apertures within similarly sharp range for their lenses (two or three stops up from wide open, usually around f8-or so)? ...If the lens settings weren't optimal, it's very tough to scrutinize a sensor or body. -Was camera-motion blur a factor? -Subject motion? -- Images (Plus Snaps & Grabs) by MarkČ at: www.pbase.com/markuson |
