Default Olympus C-5050, off center AF target mark (question)

Perhaps someone can answer my question?

Just purchased an Olympus C-5050 zoom digital camera.

With camera in Program mode (default settings), when I press
the shutter half way the AF target marks, on the LCD monitor,
will sometimes move vertically or horizontally off center. is
this normal or is there something wrong with the camera?

thanks

Your metering setting is probably set to iESP. This meters the center subject and the surrounding
area separately. This is normal. If you want stationary AF target marks, just select spot
metering.

Nothing wrong with camera.
Some Oly cameras (I don't know if all ) use the amount of contrast in the
target area
for the AF. That is to say that it focuses to a maximum amount of contrast.
If the image in the target area is such that it cannot find a suitable
contrast difference then it
will hunt for a suitable area by shifting the target either vert. or
horizontally.
