When to use Manual Vs. Auto mode for flash??
Hello: Thanks for reading this.
I'm tryiing to understand when to use auto mode as apposed to manual mode on the flash. My manual (Metz 45-CT-1) says.... AUTO MODE: 1. Focus the camera and get focus distance 2. Set the ISO/DIN 3. Select one of the available AUTO settings 4. Set the camera's f/stop to the f/stop indicated on the scale closest to "flash to subject" distance Ok, fine. MANUAL MODE: 1. Focus the camera and get focus distance 2. Set the ISO/DIN 3. Select one of the MANUAL setting 4. Set the camera's f/stop to the f/stop indicated on the scale closest to "flash to subject" distance Does step 4 seem the same to you?? So, what's the difference between MANUAL and AUTO. I understand that MANUAL emits FULL power and AUTO emits something LESS than full power based on "flash to subject" distance. My question is this -- How do you decide which mode to use? Is there a key factor, or do you just pick one. For example -- MANUAL mode outside, AUTO mode inside??? MANUAL mode for landscapes, AUTO for portraits??? How do you decide which mode to use in a given situation? Thanks for your patience as i described this. Richard H |
