Hi Calvin, First, Canon's tech support is very helpful with these kinds of questions - just send them an email to get an answer in 24hrs. Second, I've got a Canon S80 and a new SD700IS and asked the same question of Canon. I was told both cameras will only handle up to 2GB cards. I would assume then since the SD700is is brand new that is will probably be the same story for the sd450 since it is a few months older. Bates...... |

After reading your message, I just popped the 4GB SD from my PocketPC into my S80. The "remaining shots" indicator showed something in the high hundreds (at max resolution and minimum compression, with about 1.5G of other junk already on the card). I was able to take a picture and view it. My impression is that Canon doesn't know what they're talking about. |

I was thinking of buying one but didn't want to get something incompatible. Maybe I'll find someone with a 4GB card and try it out. Thanks for letting us know. Bates..... |

I was able to take a picture and view it. My impression is that Canon doesn't know what they're talking about. Here can be one trap. It's just an idea, so don't critique me so much! Are you sure that your SD is formatted with FAT32 like all SDHC cards or maybe it's formatted with FAT16? I saw some reviews when people reformatted their 4GB SD in the camera and the camera refused accepting these SD after that. I don't recommend you to reformat this SD anyway just to test that out. Just try, if you have a card reader able to read this card, plug it into your computer and try to get the file system that it's currently using. If you format with FAT32 it's more likely that this card will become real SDHC and will not be accepted with your older devices. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310561 And one more thing. I have one 4GB and one 8 GB, both are recognized with my older Card Reader from Patriot, it's a very nice reader. I can read these cards, didn't try although to read the fully written card. But to write to these card is a problem because these cards are SDHC and are having FAT32 which is not supported by the reader. So make a couple non-destructive tests to figure out what's really going on with your card. Try to connect your camera to your PC and use it as a card reader, trying to write many small files to your SD. But same all info from this card first before you start all tests to preserve it. Would be interesting to get the results of these tests. Just D. |
