Default heat absorbing glass?

Hello. I hope this isn't a question that has been posted before, I didn't see anything similar. I have an enlarger from the 50's. It works reasonably well, except for some chips in the glass that are causing problems. Sorry, I don't know the technical terms: in the place where you put the negative, there is a pull out metal piece with two plates of glass in it (I'm assuming this is the negative holder/carrier). It is this glass I would like to replace. I'm not sure if this needs to be a specific type of glass. I'm planning to find a piece big enough, and cut it to fit if neccessary, but want to make sure it is the right quality of glass before going to the effort. Thanks,
Kelly
