Well, maybe. The somewhat more advanced fakes will just map the
remaining 1.5GB into the same address space as the first 512MB, such
that simple memory check utilities will believe everything is fine. Only
when you write more than 512 MB of actual data you will wonder why your
older files or even the file system are being destroyed.
More advance fakes will even exclude the first few MB from remapping,
such that the file system info and root directory will never be
overwritten and stay intact, making the card's failure even more
mysterious.
