Default Canon G7 vs S3 ?

Hi dear Forum:

i would like to ask you which Canon camera would you choose, between a
G7 and a S3 IS, for the purpose of taking cyling tour shots

as i will be riding a road bike, i can not afford to carry a heavy bag
full of lenses, so can not choose a SLR camera, having to accept taking
photos with a compact format camera

i had decided to aquire a S3 IS, for its powerful 12X optical zoom, but
as the newer G7 (and its also newer Digic III processor) arrived, it
attracted my attention, although it only features a 6X optical zoom

which camera do you think is more suited to the refered task (taking
shots during a cycling touring travel) ?

thank you for any comment

greetings

I was an avid G-series supporter until the G7.. they replaced the lens
with a microlens, removed raw support, removed the articulated LCD..

If you can, I'd get a G6.. if you have to choose between the G7 and S3,
I'd go for the S3..(I did, actually.. no complaints so far with the
exception of higher noise at 400/800 ISO, which is actually to be
expected..)

While both are good cameras, the G7 is clearly superior, unless you
really feel you need the longer zoom the G7 is the better choice. I
happen to prefer an optical viewfinder, but that's a personal choice.

I'm set on an S3 at the moment, mainly because of the electronic
viewfinder; I find external LCDs impossible to read in daylight, and
the optical viewfinders I've tried don't give an accurate enough
representation of the final image. I'm a long-time SLR user and still
cling to the conventional eye-level camera grip.

I won't need the camera 'til next May, so I'm expecting someting else to
be on the market by then. I'll be replacing a venerable A60.

If you're going to stick this cam in a handlebar bag, go for the G7, which
appears to have more robust build quality. Either one will provide good
service, but based on the samples I've seen, the image quality of the G7 is
superior. The lack of an EVF is a drawback, as is the lack of an articulated
LCD, but it wouldn't put me off.

If he wants a light solution for travelling, he would be wise to look at
more than a single manufacturer.

hi dear Posters:

thank you very much for your very enlightening and insightful opinions

i do prefer Canon because i have already purchased other Canon + Sony +
Samsung + Panasonic products in the past, and speaking from my personal
experiences with these products, Canon has been _for me_ the best
photographic equipment manufacturer

besides, I can get much better prices for Canon than for all other
brands :-)

that is why i am so "fixated" about purchasing a Canon camera

thank you

Canon should be totally ashamed of this (and some others too) HP got this basic and absolutely essential thing right in their little digicam that's cheap even for a P&S, so why can't Canon?!! Yes, I know, there's more to the Canon 20D, but w Mike Henley Digital Photography 58 December 15th 04 05:21 PM
