Uploading photos from canon camera to PC
A couple of months ago i replaced my canon s45 with canon 710IS
I have been happily using the camera for last couple of months and everything fine. I must confess that i leave it to my wife to upload pictures from card to PC and every couple of months i back up photos. I have noticed that the old photos on PC had format 123_0001.jpg, 123_0002.jpg and the photos taken with new camer a seem to have format of IMG_0001.jpg, IMG_0002.jpg. I much prefer the first format but cannot seem to find a way to get pictures to save in that format. Can anyone help? Regards Steve |

Regards Steve The slow tedious way is to rename the file once it gets to the computer. Another way is to use Adobe Bridge. Another way is to create a batch file to rename all files. Yet another way is if your camera has a setting to change the naming convention. There are probably other methods as well. Jim |

Regards Steve The use of "IMG" would seem to indicate that the images are being renamed by the downloading program. Usually cameras use somthing like "DSC" as part of the file name. Get your lady wife to try copying the images from the Camera to the HDD without using any program. Roy G |

Depending on the version, it's in either Zoombrowser or the Canon Camera Window. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you may have to break down and read the manual and/or the on-line helps. Not just current Canons. All of mine use IMG_ for their filenames and have done so since 2000. I'll bet that the OP's new camera doesn't have its files copied to the hard drive using the same software that the older camera(s?) used. Many cameras come with software that renames files as they're copied. I don't see that as an option in Canon's Zoombrowser, but the FinePixViewer provided with Fuji's cameras offers a fairly flexible renaming ability, allowing you to apply a Pattern, User Settings, and to "Start Continuous Numbers from:" to the files copied from the card and saved to the hard drive. There are probably many commercial photo apps. that also have the ability to rename copied or imported files. FWIW, my Fuji uses DSCF and my Nikon uses DSC_ instead of Canon's IMG_ for their filenames. |

Turns out that when we got new camer a we updated canon zoombrowser which is used for uploading photos. Latest version does not rename photos. Used bulkrenameutility and that does exactly what i want. Cheers Steve |

Can Canon cameras let you just
drag and drop photos to a PC? Panasonic will, which is part of the reason I may stick with a Panasonic when I upgrade. (their MP3 players will too) Do most Digicams allow you to drag and drop, or do they require their own software to download pics? |
