Car readers won't show WAV files.
I have tried several brands of USB card reader for use with my digital
camera's (Kodak DC290) Compact Flash card. My camera allows the capture of WAV files along with pictures. Using the manufacturer's driver, it shows the card reader file system with both JPGs, TIFFs, WAVs, etc. Using any card reader I have tried so far, only image files are displayed. Why is this ? Anyone else seen this behavior ? If anyone should wonder, I have reloaded my OS (W2K Prof) and the driver no longer functions correctly, so I have resorted to a reader, which I like the idea of no additional driver overhead anyway, since it relies on the already-loaded USB driver. Thanks, Scott |

Using the standard Windows Explorer, though, should show you everything on the card. Mark |

I had 2000 Pro a couple years ago and as I recall you have to enable the P-n-P feature. I don't remember about USB, but I'd check that too. It seems as I remember enabling P-n-P disabled something else I wanted to use. I went to XP Pro as P-n-P was so much easier and it's based pretty much on the same kernel. I am using Windows Explorer. It only shows the images - no WAVs.

Card readers won't show WAV files.
No only that, I had updated the firmware, and had to create a System folder
on the card and copy some files and run them. Those files are still there, and I can see the directory, but no files. It is as if the manufacturers are filtering on known image types, and won't allow anything else to show up. Scott "ScottHW" wrote in message ... I am using Windows Explorer. By any chance could they be marked as hidden files or stored in a hidden folder? Browse to the card in Explorer. Then choose Tools == Folder Options == View and enable the Show hidden files and folders selection. You might also disable Hide protected operating system files. __________________________________________________ ______ Ed Ruf Lifetime AMA# 344007 ) See images taken with my CP-990 and 5700 at http://EdwardGRuf.com No, I checked that - I always turn on all files types, and I double checked just now and hidden and OS files are "turned on" for display. sigh Scott |

Perhaps the Kodak software if used to view the files you've transfered to the PC will say there is an attatched WAV. Scott -- Jonathan Wilson. www.somethingerotic.com |

Car readers won't show WAV files.
BINGO! It's *not* unlikely. I have done some experimenting, and when I
record a WAV with picture, I can plug the Card in and look at the Properties, and tell the Used space is correct for the approximate size of the JPG and the WAV. If I put the card back into the camera and tell the camera to delete the WAV only, then put card BACK into the reader, the free space has shrunk. The individual JPG has also shrunk by an appropriate size. The rascals! Now, how in the world do I sort that out with a 3rd party reader ? There doesn't seem to be a way to tell the Kodak software to look at files on the hard drive already. I may have to call Kodak support and put this to rest. Thanks everyone for chiming in, Scott "Jonathan Wilson" wrote in message ... On Tue, 29 Jun 2004 07:02:19 -0500, "ScottHW" wrote: "Ed Ruf" wrote in message .. .
