Default Canon EOS RP sucks a bit

Well no, it's not a bad camera, it's just that it could
be much better:
https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2019/04/25/the-
eos-rp-is-a-great-entry-level-full-frame-camera

Biggest problems (according to the review):
- high ISO performance could be better
- no IBIS

Why not write from your own experience rather than simply repeating
other peoples' opinions? The notion that this camera "sucks" is utter
nonsense. I bought the RP a few weeks ago and I have used it
extensively for candid portraits, general photography, including nature
photography, and macrophotography. I find the RP to be an excellent
camera, easy to use, with good ergonomics and highly versatile for
everything but high-frame-rate sports photography (for which I have no
use). The image quality of the RP compares favorably to that of my 5D
Mark IV and my 6D Mark II, which is to say it is very good. At $1299
(and the price will come down, of course) it's a bargain.

The dogmatic mantra about IBIS is bull****. It's not a "problem" in any
sense of the word, but an expression of someone's personal preference.

Agreed! There are those who look on IBIS as some sort of security blanket. So
far I have managed 60 years of photography, shooting Kodak, Argus, Pentax,
Nikon, Canon, and currently Fujifilm without owning a camera with IBIS. I
have no doubt that some time in the future I might have no option other than
a camera with IBIS, but for now many of my lenses have VR/OIS for when
stabilization might be helpful. The thing to remember is, stabilization, be
it IBIS, or VR/OIS is not needed, or even desired for any action/sport
photography, landscapes w/tripod, or WA in good light with fast glass.

Candid, ISO 3200https://www.flickr.com/photos/primeval/32501092737.

Nice capture, but the Flickr EXIF states that it was shot with your 5D +
Tamron 28-300mm, not the RP. Unless you were demonstrating that you managed
without IBIS just the ā€œVibration Compensationā€ in that Tamron.

Those are shot with the RP, and are absolutely fine.

For me the bottomline is the entry of Canon, & Nikon into the mirrorless
world. Things can only improve, and that means there will be exciting stuff
in the future.

You've never used IBIS, right? 1 second handheld
exposures in the blue hour, just to make an example.

that can be done with ilis just as easily, if not better with longer
focal length lenses where it's more effective than ibis.

That has aught to do with me. I rarely use image stabilization at all;
for long exposures I rely on one of my tripods. Where I am likely to
use IS is for a hand-held macro. IS in my Canon lenses is quite
adequate to the task. I did not suggest that is adequate for your
purposes.

I note that you ignored the remainder of my reply, the important part,
my real-world experience with the Canon EOS RP.

My error. I atone with another macro

arrow to go to the following shot, which shows the setup for that
macro.

Well, you are our resident macro specialist, so it is good to see the RP will
meet your macro demands. Just enjoy whatever you choose to use.

Personally, while I can appreciate the image quality produced by the RP I am
not in the market for any of the new FF mirrorless cameras as I am fully
committed to the Fujifilm APS-C X-system with several cameras, and a nice
variety of very good glass.

Any tests have proven again and again that IBIS allows for more and higher
quality images in many instances. Brushing off IBIS is like trying to say AF has no major value.

false.
