In case anyone is interested, I ended up taking the camera to a local
repair place and they replaced the mirror release magnet and return spring. They also calibrated and cleaned the camera. The total repair price was $207, of which about $20 were for parts. When I press the shutter release, it shows the exposure info in the viewfinder and the lens auto focuses. When I press the shutter release fully, the lens stops down, but nothing else happens. The top display panel will then flash "bc" as if an error condition exists, which I suppose is true. :-) This will stop when I press the shutter release half way again. I have replaced the battery and also tried firing the shutter without the lens and neither of these help. I also removed the battery for several days, but this made no difference (the problem did start after I replaced a dead battery that was in the camera for several months). .... |
