As to Usenet and NGs, I can't stop my doctor friend from calling NGs "chat rooms". He's an AOL'er, a good doctor, and a good friend, so I gave up trying to get his terminology right. He fell right off his chair when I started in on HTTP vs. SMTP vs. NNTP! I cut my teeth on BB's at 110 baud with an accoustic coupler, thought that 300 baud was fast, and later still thought I'd died and gone to heaven with 1200! I used to have to yell "ONE" and "ZERO" into the phone repeatedly to send messages. |
