In article ,
says... No,it doesn't come anywhere near blowing away a 6000 dpi drum scan of a Fuji Provia 100F slide or NPS negative. Nowhere remotely near. In capturing detail, I would say it does. The effective resolution of film is nowhere near the scanning resolution. In any case, the utter lack of noise or grain in the 1Ds Mk II images tilt the scale favorably to digital. -- http://www.pbase.com/bcbaird/ |

From the EOS Mail-list 09/20/2004 EOS 1Ds mark ll Full frame (36x24mm) DSLR 16MP, 4992x3328 pixels (16.6 mega pixels) Filesize in RAW is 14.6MB Jaysus! If the price doesn't kill you, getting enough memory will! By my calculations you would only get 69 shots on a 1GB card. I like the fact that it is full frame, but for all intents and purposes, do we really need more than 12 mega-pixels??? I get stressed working with 35Mb NEF to TIFF files on my computer. I'd hate to know what the RAW conversion to TIFF on this thing will come in at. About 100Mb's per file? 6 or 7 images on one CD? My lab has started charging extra for having to convert TIFF files to JPEG so that they can print them on the Frontier. 16MP sounds like a lot of work! -- Dallas www.dallasdahms.com "Going down a dirty inner city side road I plotted Madness passed me by, she smiled hi, I nodded" - Sixto Rodriguez |
