In the European case, the European Commission ruled in May that Intel
had paid manufacturers and one retailer to favour its chips over those
of key rival Advanced Micro Devices between 2002 and 2007.

Isn't that rather like Nikon or Canon or whoever giving out equipment to
photo-journalists? It seems to me that there is a grey and ever-changing
boundary between what's just OK, and what's just not.

Rich is so full of it. Intel offered what PowerPC could not quickly enough.

Exactly. Motorola pretty much abandoned it and Apple, amazingly, was
able to switch their entire platform and model line to a completely
different architecture with just a few glitches. Intel may be guilty
of other things, but not of coercing Apple.
