Another Rough Cal CenCoast Winter's day

Eric Stevens: Duck, I like the photographs but they all seem a trifle dull to me. And I've just recalibrated my screens. That dull, flat look seems to be his trademark. Don't know whether these were RAW or how he processed them, but they're overbalanced toward the blue end. They are processed from RAW, and are subject to my experimentation with Lightroom, Photoshop and the other tools I have at my disposal. I might go for a particular 'look' from time-to-time, but I don't have a particular signature, or "trademark" to my images, and I might well revisit the same file several times to try something different. Sometimes it is very different, perhaps a deliberate HDR, sometimes I have used a filter at capture, sometimes it is applied in post. I am not a pro, or PJ. I have no deadlines to meet, and I have the luxury to be able to engage in that experimentation. -- Regards, Savageduck |

And I've just recalibrated my screens. How do the Drop Box images look, compared with the ones you sent off? Don't worry about it. They were shot with the Fuji and I used the Fujifilm 'Classic Chrome' LR Camera Calibration. I guess if I had used something else you wouldn't have noticed. For example I changed this shot from 'Classic Chrome' to 'Astia', with no other adjustment. I could have left it at Adobe Standard, or something else. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2448009keoi0z5i/_DSF1355-2.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1295663/FileChute/screenshot_494.jpg How does https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...R--7500502.jpg look to you? Eric Stevens: How does https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...R--7500502.jpg look to you? As a photograph, I would say it's nicely done. The building and horizon lines do not look straight to me. I have a preference for using a vignette to darken the edges thereby making it easier for the viewer to look at the subject. As a building for which I would want to be responsible for paying the utility bills, it's a total loser. -- PeterN |

The lines are as straight as LR can easily make them. One thing I have learned photographing old buildings around Europe is that even if they were built straight and square they have sagged into all kinds of shapes over the intervening centuries. Look at this lot in Amsterdam. The Schloss Johannisburg which you doesn't look straight was built 400 years ago and it wouldn't surpise me if the foundations had settled a little in that time. As a building for which I would want to be responsible for paying the utility bills, it's a total loser. https://translate.google.co.nz/trans...rg&prev=search or http://tinyurl.com/zejjane "until 1803 as a second residence of the Mainz archbishops and electors" I guess they could afford it. -- Regards, Eric Stevens |
