With all the newsgroups out there, why do the trolls continue to attack
and harass this newsgroup? Is there some reason why they pick on this
NG? Do these people have nothing better to do with their time than to
annoy people genuinly interested in digital photography, when they could
occupy themselves by banging their empty heads against the nearest wall?

Do you mean the Sigma SD10 salesman?

I find it's easy to block sender him

This is a busy group. You don't think they would get much fun from one
where they are the only ones posting, do you? It is also a group where
people come for help, and trolls just LOVE to get in the way of people
who need help, and those who like to give it. It is in their nature to
disrupt, and confuse.

Not so. He just uses several names similar to his own. Properly, he is
not a troll, just a person with an unfortunate obsession.

Other than a specific poster or two this news group is little
different than most of the near 60 that I follow. No I don't read
every post. I only look for threads that might be interesting.
Actually with the exception of those particular posts most of the
other *stuff* shows up on most of those groups.

Do these people have nothing better to do with their time than to
annoy people genuinly interested in digital photography, when they could

It's a social and psychological thing.
They thrive on attention and every thread like this they see as
encouragement.

Some keep proposing moderated groups again and again, but you only
need to follow rec.photo.moderated to see how successful that approach
can be. Most of the time they manage to keep the "Off Topic" stuff
out, except when the posters have posted directly to the server. That
and the group sees very little traffic even when it gets "seeded" with
questions designed to generate interest.

By far the best approach is to use kill files, and ignore them.
Unfortunately there are a number of posters on this group who are
unable to do that for one reason or another, which keeps encouraging
them.

Oh. A bit like a paedophile then?

Probably because people keep responding instead of ignoring them or learning
how to use their news reader filters.

It ois mostly one rather pathetic person who literally has nothing better to
do. You just have to live with it as his obsession is not going away until
he dies.

No, a Sigmaphile, who evidently bought his toy at Abes of Maine.

I find it going on at some level or other in every group I'm involved
in. (Maybe it's my fault? :-)). Mostly I hardly notice it; my
reading habits became pretty selective even 20 years ago, and the
trolls never manage to work up any positive scores in my ratings.
