I can't help but remember (and compare) the problems
that film cameras used to have with the film-speed/noise issues. Then, I
learned to shoot in 64ASA Kodachrome with a tripod to get those sharp
noise/grain-free images of yesteryear.
How do feel about writing legible prose?
What an odd comment to make about an intelligently written
detailed description of the author's camera selection process...
--DR

"Legible" was the wrong word because that indicates visual aspect of
the letters. However, the writing could certainly benefit from the
use of the "enter" key to delineate paragraphs.
Well, it's an arcane usage of the word, and not wrong; it's from the
same guy who insists on spelling the singular of "lens" as "lense".

Wrong.

Hmmm. Wrong in that you don't spell lens in an odd way, or wrong that
using "illegible" is not an arcane usage, or some other wrong?

Illegible is neither arcane, nor was I the one who introduced it
into the conversation. Pay attention to detail.

If the OP's prose is the worst you have to read, you're pretty lucky.

I did not even imply that it was the worst. It was bad enough,
and with no apparent significance, that I initially only read the
first few sentences and stopped. Why make an effort when nothing
is to be gained... Due to the followups, I did read the enire
article to see if that was a mistake. It wasn't.

Please do note that no one, at least that I noticed, has
complained about errors in typing, spelling, or grammar.
The complaint is that you've formatted it in a style
that is difficult to read.

In fact, the complaints were a bit of a compliment too!
It does appear that everyone who did not appreciate the
formatting actually *wanted* to to read it, simply
because it appeared to be a good "story", with at least
entertainment value. I'm the only one who has even
hinted at anything else, and I too would have read and
enjoyed the "story" you told, if it had been formatted
differently. But I'm only willing to go that much
effort if there is technical content of significant
value, as opposed to entertainment value.

Writing for Usenet is an interesting topic in itself.
You'll find some obvious formatting techniques that
indicate where various authors are coming from. Yours
indicated you didn't care if anyone read it or not, the
point was to let off some steam. Which is to say...
masturbation. :-) Others, who generally limit what they
say to one screen full at most, want *everyone* to read
what they say and think of them as witty, significant,
intelligent, or whatever.

Hence I'll end at this point, because I've obviously
already progressed too far in the same direction that
you took...

n-DSLR. First of all, I've had a long-time interest in
photography, over the years having owned a number of DSL cameras as
well as
having my own darkroom. Pressure of work (or rather commuting into
London)
in the latter period of my working life meant that my absorbing
interest in
photography was put on the back burner. My last DSL camera was a
Pentax
LX,

Hello.

What is a "DSL" camera, please?

One hooked up via POTS.....

I have heard of DSLR and SLR (and even TLR) but not DSL.

I was thinking the same thing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was clearly a typo, and I am sure you got it in
context.

Well no, what is it? I would not be so bold as to presume!!

You're an idiot.

FYI

I am guessing he is for it but just doesn't know how.

What about you, how do you feel about it?? ;-)

There you go three paragraphs.

Cheers.

I'm neither for nor against DSLRs, though I've noticed that there is/has
been lots of smoke about this subject. To put it in a rather different
perspective, I'd like to outline why I have (perhaps a little
reluctantly)
chosen to buy a non-DSLR.

1) Don't care
2) There are many fine P&S cameras if you can live with the limitations
3) There are many fine dSLR cameras if you can live with the limitations
4) It's your camera and your money - you don't have to justify yourself.
5) Pictures count - cameras don't.

Indeed, Ray.

If genuine, I thought it rather sad that someone would need to justify a
purchase after the event.

Where are 's" pictures?

Always amusing when a nitpicker has a typo. It's enTire. And your prose
isn't that wonderful either.
