Sticky tape to attach bulk load film to spool. What do people use?
(_*#&5_)(&#)5
That's about the nicest thing i can say after pulling the film off the spool for the umpteenth time. i bulk load 35mm from 100 foot rolls. I've been using various tapes to try to hold the film onto the spool, but none of them work anywhere near as well as the stuff kodak and fuji and ilford use. What tape works for this application. Since it takes about a whopping 1 inch of tape, and you get 33 rolls per 100 feet... i figure a 25 yard spool ought to last me until i'm about 143 years old! So money isn't the problem. The problem is... WHAT WORKS!? |

Sticky tape to attach bulk load film to spool. What do people use?
I went to the paint dept of the local walmart and got a roll Manco masking tape
(nothing special about the name at the time it was what they had) and it's worked fine. It's also lasted for at least 4yrs and I've used less then half the roll! Be carefull because all masking tapes aren't made the same. I had another roll of masking tape that I got on vacation once and I had a lot of problems with film pulling off of the roll. Sticky tape to attach bulk load film to spool. What do people use?
I use the 3M masking tape. 3/4 " size. Works fine for me. What I do is
butt the film against the spool (with a bit of it lapping over the spool), tape one end of the masking tape segment on one side of the film, then lead it around the spool and onto the other side of the film. When completed, the tape is kind of like a 'U' with the spool at the bottom and the film clamped between the legs. "Dr. Dagor" wrote in message om... I always just used masking tape. I've had a couple rolls come apart over the
years - but not many at all. -- http://www.chapelhillnoir.com home of The Camera-ist's Manifesto The Improved Links Pages are at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/links/mlinks00.html New email - Contact on the Menyou page. From my dim memory of long ago years, I seem to recall that Lawrence's
trick with the loop is what worked for me. Lisa Lawrence Akutagawa wrote: I use the 3M masking tape. 3/4 " size. Works fine for me. Sticky tape to attach bulk load film to spool. What do people use?
Most anything with reasonable strength works. I usually go with vinyl
electrical tape, sometimes with surgical adhesive tape. The usual "Scotch" tape office tapes seem a bit flimsy.
