Retaping Riteway holders
I recently got hold of a stack of nice Riteway 4x5 holders.
Some of these need retaping as I can see pinholes through parts of the hinges when opened and held up to a bright light. Calumet sells special Fidelity tape in narrow widths, but these holders want 1" wide tape. Calumet and Porter's both sell something called "Photo Tape" in 1-inch width. Is the thickness OK? $27 a roll is a little pricey if it's the wrong stuff. Thanks. BTW, did Riteway ever make holders in sizes other than 4x5? I've been watching that auction site for a while and all that ever seems to show up is 4x5 size. Steve |

The only function the tape serves is as a hinge, to allow the base of the holder to be opened and closed. It serves no light prevention function, that's done by the traps inside the holder. So you can use anything you like to tape the base of the olders just so it is flexible and adheres properly. In a pinch you could use clear Scotch tape but normally you'd use some form of black tape like you can buy at Home Depot for a couple dollars a roll. You certainly don't need tape that costs $27 a roll for your film holders. "Stephan Goldstein" wrote in message ... I recently got hold of a stack of nice Riteway 4x5 holders. Most of it is 3m product which can be found in a local art store for about half the price at the very most. -- LF Website @ http://members.verizon.net/~gregoryblank "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."--Theodore Roosevelt, May 7, 1918 |

I've used some old black cloth electrician's tape I had from ages ago from somewhere (don't even know if they still make the stuff), which works just fine. -- Today's bull**** job description: • Collaborate to produce operational procedures for the systems management of the production Information Technology infrastructure. - from an actual job listing on Craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org) |

Beats anything 3M makes and sells at premium prices, like their useless black photographic masking tape. Beats duct tape as well.
