Thanks for the link. I better take advantage of it......My 401K is
rapidly shrinking away to nothing......Right now, My wife and I will have
to die in about 8 years, or we will end up in the, "poorhouse". My father
used to talk about the poorhouse.....I thought it was an obsolete term
until a couple of months ago......

Not just over the my super has gone the way of the dodo as
well, so have most of them here. Result: I have to work another
20 years to get back where I was 2 years ago. And the freaking
*******s still dare to charge me a "management" fee every month:
I don't need to pay someone to lose money, I can do that myself!
Try to explain that to a socialist government...

Yes, and the government is bailing those *******s out with my
money......They are printing it like crazy, and giving it away to the very
people who have trashed my savings, and there isn't a damn thing I can do
about it. I should have known there was some way they could screw me out of
my retirement....They figured out the way. Find out where I had my money,
and then make sure it was worth nothing. If I had buried gold in my back
yard, they would have started to mine it with government mines, and given it
away for nothing until my stash became meaningless and I was broke.....A
determined enough government can figure out a way to screw anyone it wants
to screw.......

Billy, why did you go with Vista?

I didn't know any better......I bought a refurbished HP machine from Fry's
Electronics, and it had Vista on it. It was only $400, and it would have
done what I wanted it to do. Unfortunately, it had a bug on it. Every five
or ten minutes it would freeze up, put 6 or 7 diagonal stripes on its
monitor, and force me to power it off, back on, and lose everything I had
done since the last save. They were unable to fix it. Turns out that the HP
machines with an AMD tri-core chip in them were lemons. The only fix was to
replace the motherboard with some other processor. I eventually did this. I
now have the same machine box and power supply, but it has an Intel
dual-core Pentium chip and motherboard in it. I lost some files with the
rebuild, but no photos, and so I was able to rebuild most of them out of my
head, which is not a real problem. Whenever I rewrite something, it is a
little better that it was before anyway, because I am a little smarter that
I was the first time I wrote it. I haven't really had any problems that
could be attributed to Vista, and I have become a lot more familiar with it
the last few months. On the face of it, it isn't a bad operating system.
It's just that it does a lot of little things differently that my XP
operating system did them, and so there has been a learning curve that came
along with. After all, Bill Gates has all these employees just sitting
around with nothing to do. So, they have to keep changing things in order to
justify their existence. Under any normal circumstances, he would just fire
them all and settle back into a smaller, more comfortable company with
newer, less valuable employees. Kind of like changing Costco into
Target......But I guess they don't do that with software companies like they
do with retail department stores.

Get a Mac next time Bill.

Run Windows on the Mac (under VM Ware Fusion) whenever you need a
Windblows program. In about 3 - 6 months you'll hardly be using the
Windblows software.

And yes, you can run your scanner on it; if not with Minolta s/w then with
VueScan under Mac OS X or Windows.

Yes.....I am using Vuscan to run my KM scanner now. I would have gone with
the Mac, but it was a lot more expensive, and I sure have a lot of time and
money invested in Windows machines.....It is hard to switch to Apple at this
late stage....

I was using Teranews for a while, but was getting a lot of dropped
posts, so I changed to Motsarella, a free non-binary news server which
works well.

http://motsarella.com

SP!- just sub in a zed.

In your headers (and mine) it's: news.motzarella.org.

It's a fine service, esp. at the price....

Funny thing is: all my life I heard that printing money like
they are doing is a recipe for out-of-control inflation.
Textbook stuff.
It appears that moron Bush is hell bent on leaving the whole
world in another depression, provided he can keep his
country-club fascist friends happy.

Hmmm...
I think Vista will go the same way as Windoze95 in all
my boxes: never installed, never had to worry about it!
Best way of avoiding problems with Microslop's paid-for
beta software.

Bill,

Verizon dumped their NG service as well, and I went to a company called
Usenetmonster. I chose them because they offered a decent package for low
money. Caveat: I chose them because I do a bit of downloading and they
offered a good quantity for relatively low cost. If you don't do any
binary
downloading, there's some free services out there you might be able to
use.
Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied with my choice.

Good to see you back. We need more people who will vote against corporate
bailouts.

Verizon only dumped the alt. groups. This message is coming to you via
the Verizon server. Welcome back Bill. Looking forward to your ornery
posts. ;-)

I know they only dumped the Alt groups, but that's where I spend about 90%
of my time. And many of the Alt groups they dumped weren't binary groups.
Overall, they may as well just dump the whole service.

Such were my thoughts. Yes, I realize you're older, but ... and as I
said you can bring all of your Windows s/w into the Mac in a VM Ware
Fusion partition(s) which runs native WinXP (Or Vista, or Linux, or
....) in parallel with the Mac (both OS' at the same time).

So you don't lose your Windows s/w investment.
you re-use your WinXP license on the Mac
Mac OS is much more stable than WinXP
an iMac takes up little space

I'm not much anti-Windows, but I'm sure more and more pro-Mac (and yes,
Mac's are NOT perfect).

Well, I'm going to ride this one for a while......If I have to switch
computers again, I probably will go with the Mac......But right now, I am
worrying about ways to save money, instead of spending it.

Billy, why did you go with Vista?

Well why wouldn't you, XP is a dead OS.

Huh? At my work I'm in charge of keeping over 100 PC's going. Only two
of them are running Vista and it will stay that way for the foreseeable
future. We have more Linux desktops that Vista.

Whoopie do, we have over a 1,000 Vista machines working just fine thanks.

Groovy! What does you Vista do that my XP cannot besides cost a lot of
money.
