Converting vob to jpg
I received a slide show greeting CD instead of a greeting card.
I am wondering how I can extract a few pictures from CD (VOB) in order to print out using Canon ink jet printer. Craig |

And just how will that get him a few frame grabs that he can print? Most PC video playing software has a facility for grabbing individual frames from a video and saving them in some form or another. Once you've done that you can print them. Be aware that you're capturing TV-quality images, so don't expect much. -- Bert Hyman St. Paul, MN |

Craig Go to ....Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot/and then TURN OFF hardware acceleration. (this allows screen grabs) Play the movie in your computer. Pause at the appropriate spots. Hit the (Prt Scrn) key on your keyboard. Open MS Paint and paste the screen grab. Save as a jpg |

Most software DVD players for PC have a "screenshot" function, just check
out what you have. It will however be a very low resolution picture (just the standard resolution for the colour system used NTSC / PAL). You can assemble a number of small saved screenshot pictures on one page using a photo editor and print it. "Craig" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... Craig Be aware that any picture that results from a VOB or other video file will be optimized (rendered) for a TV screen, and even a HD video is not going to give you a very large result before it turns to total crap. -- You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence. -- Charles A. Fortunately for him, you and all the other responders appear to have answered the question he would have asked if he knew what to ask. Life is good, no? Paul Allen |

For the original poster, there are several utilities out there that will convert .vob to mpeg. (google convert vob mpg) Once he has it in mpeg format, he can play it on his computer. Pause it and do a screen capture, or some software such as ulead video studio will grab stills automagically and save them as jpg's. Worth noting, though, is that he's not going to get good large prints from the jpeg's. It may be more work than it's worth, particularly if the person who sent the card may be willing and able to send him the original full sized jpg's to print from. Take care. Ken |

He didn't say, "How can I grab a few frames out of the MPEG- compressed video object someone sent me?" Are you really interested in arguing about this? I'm not. The OP likely has the answer he needs and has little use for a discussion of whether his question was clear. Paul Allen |
