Default Lens for Nikkormat EL

Folks: Help me out. I have a great old Nikkormat EL but my Nikon
lens is kaput. I am looking at a used Vivitar Series I 28-105 mm.
Will this work okay on this manual focus camera and link with my
pin-connected meter? Any suggestions for good value lenses?
Thanks.
Dave

Both of my local camera shops have a wide variety of older Nikkors at
reasonable prices. The manual focus stuff apparently isn't selling very
well. I'd look at used Nikkors before considering a Vivitar.

I'd second that, unless you can tell who made aVivtar lens (the series 1
lenses made by Kiron are excelent circa 1980-86), a Nikon lens is the
better choice.

Just avoid the 43-86 zoom. It was contemporary with the EL and would look
good on it if you can find a good looking one, but if there was ever a
bad Nikon lens, that's it.

Geoff.

Geoffrey

Kiron was only one manufacturer to make many of the excellent older Vivitar
Series 1 lenses. The Tokina & Komine lenses are also as good as, or better than
the Kiron made one's. I have the production code for the Vivitar lenses. If you
give me a serial #, I will tell you who made it for them, and when. The Viv S-1
28-105 was made by Cosina, and is not built all that well. The Kiron 28-105, is
a much better lens. Also, the Komine made Viv S-1 28-90, is an excellent lens.

Thanks

I think I've used this lens as an example of a bad Nikkor, as well. I
must say, though, that the last version with the improved coating can
be...adequate. grin
