Default Best neutral lighting setup

Equipment list:

* 3 stobes of some sort
* any lighting accessories (soft boxes, umbrellas, etc)
* 1 large backdrop

Subject:

people, one to eight of them

Setup:

Neutral, you are going to be shooting a wide variety of folks and
they all need to look pretty much the same.

How EXACTLY would you use the three mono lights? What accessories
would you use with those three mono lights?

With the goal of *neutrality*, I'd set up a light with big diffuser
(since it costs nothing to specify arbitrary equipment in a Usenet
post, I'll say a big softbox) off to each side of the camera the same
amount (less than the full 45 degrees out) and slightly higher, and
use the third light to directly light the backdrop if needed, or else
to provide a raking hair and shoulder rim-light to separate them from
a black backdrop (the backdrop color wasn't specified, so I'm covering
both cases). (If doing the rim-light thing, probably need a grid to
narrow that beam).

My first reaction was to skip this message as you were asking too much.
There is no way to set up a shot for a group and a person. But then I
remembered a book in my formative years by Irving Penn....Worlds in a Small
Room. He built what might be called a light tent. Use natural light....get
an open northern exposure...build your sweep...move the people through as
they show up.
