Just west of Green River, where the highway passes through the reef on
the east side of the San Rafael Swell. should be a few possibilites at
pullouts all along that area.

Do you have any short hikes to recommend along Utah I-70. We are
looking for a scenic break for an hour or two in early October.
Difficulty level easy to moderate.

We will have hiking boots, canteens, hats, and cameras.

Thanks, Brian

Try Sego Canyon for magnificant rock art and a ghost town. 25 miles east
of Green River, take exit 185 and go north about 3 miles. Do a Google
search for Sego Canyon to see what it has to offer.

Of course you can drive a lot of the canyon, but I prefer to walk
(hike). From the main rock art panels it's another 1/2 mile to the ghost
town. That's a mile round trip. If I'm out walking, I find more to
photograph. But you're right. For a straight hike, one might be better
off to duck south towards Canyonlands or Arches and Dead Horse
point--also great photography.

Agreed. It's hard to imagine just zipping though on the freeway
without taking side trips through the San Rafael Swell, or down toward
Hanksville, or any number of places around that area. BTW, I'm trying
to pinpoint an area known locally as Hahn's Flat. Supposedly near
Hanksville. Any ideas?

thanks. all this time I've been misspelling "Hans" as "Hahns", which
is how the guy in Torrey told me it was spelled. I can be such a fool
sometimes!
