I feel like this on Mondays...

Just joking, of course. Great stuff, Troy.

Great shots! The third and fourth shots were my favourites.

Thanks mate

Having looked at your photos, I got off my lazy backside yesterday
evening and took a few macro shots. Needed to use that macro lens
more!

And this is what I got:

http://www.metalvortex.com/photo_art/liquid2/index.htm

Don't want to get into mutual backslapping; hope you enjoy these. It
was ludicrously easy to produce these; very little set-up to do, and
these were my first attempts at shooting water droplets.

Anyway, thank you for getting me off my backside

Those are pretty cool. Really clean and nice lighting. What was
your setup? Did you manually trigger the camera or have one of
those motion or sound triggers?

I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed or proud with how I got those
images as it was so easy!

Simple. Saw your images. Around 5.30pm.

1. Grabbed my 40D with 100mm macro lens, external flash unit and
tripod.

2. Went into kitchen and set up camera on tripod near window.

3. Got a saucepan and half-filled with water.

4. Got a paper towel, rolled into ball and dunked it in water. Used
it to drip water droplets into saucepan using left hand to squeeze
towel.

5. Set camera to RAW, ISO 400, f2.8, 1/250 s, manual focus to where I
think the splash drops would end up. Used my left index finger dipped
in the water as a target to focus on.

6. External flash batteries were dead so I switched to internal
flash.

7. Using left hand to squeeze drops, and right hand to press shutter.
Took a few shots! Had to move hand up/down/left/right/etc to try and
get the splash drops in the right place. Also fine-tuned the focus a
few times.

8. Imported images into Photoshop, used Neat Image plugin to clean
noise and then gradient adjustment layer for the sepia-type toning
(plus curve/level adjustments thrown in). Done!

Steps 1-7 took maybe 15 minutes. It was that quick. I was just trying
to take a few practice shots to explore what I needed to do. The
practice shots were fine although a lot were out of focus or
mistimed!

If I was trying to do this "properly" I would have created a stand
with a container that gave consistent water drops allowing focusing
to be much easier. I'm not sure if I would have used a triggered
timer...not sure where to get one! I'll have to have a look around.

I will say this; what I did was quick and dirty. However, I really
enjoyed myself and the results were better than I expected.
Photography should be fun after all! Cheers!

Sorry about the jibe, Rita

Been testing out some new diffusers. These were all taken with
100mm lens and extension tubes, 430EX flash with Lumiquest
Softbox diffuser. Quite happy with the lighting. Yet to test
fully the smaller version Mini Softbox.

Cool. What's wrong with the disc? It looks all crazed or
something - did you cook it first?
