Default John Shaw photo weekend?

Has anyone attended one of these? They are having one
about a mile from my house and I'm wondering if it is worth
the $200?

Thanks
Fred

Try googling. There are lots of comments out there from past
attendees.

A whole weekend with John Shaw for only $200?!!! Unless it's something like
a 200-participant seminar, it sounds great.

My daughter (13 at the time) and I attended a weekend seminar a couple years
ago. It was a none shooting event. Day one was technique and day 2 was
business aspects. We only went to day one (wish I would have gone to day 2).
We are very new to photography and we enjoyed it a lot. In retrospect it was
a rehash of his books (which I think are very good). If you've read his
books you've been to his seminar, at least that the way it was 2 years ago.
Not meant as criticism, a good reinforcement to the written word.

I thought he was an excellent speaker/presenter but than again he has had
classroom experience as a "grad ass" (graduate assistant at the University
of Wisconsin, I think) before going into photography.

John put on a slide show and that was worth the price! He was very
approachable, down to earth sorta fellow. It was a small a group (no more
than 200 people) so it was a good setting for personnel interaction. He gave
his time feely to everyone during the breaks. There were people of all
abilities in attendance and he did a good job of meeting everyone's need. I
didn't hear anyone complain.

One aspect of John's seminars now that you likely wouldn't find as
much about in his books is digital aspects of modern photography. I
ran across him this fall when we were both out shooting Colorado's
fall colors, and we talked at length about the expanding viability of
digital technology. Adding that to his already impressive knowledge
base and credentials, I would think the $200 would be very well spent.

From this we might expect that future publications of his will be
dealing with the use of digital methods. There is no doubt that John
Shaw has always taken advantage of anything at his disposal to make
his images more appealing.
