Default Rolleicord Va - I got it back 11-19-07

Previously, a few months ago, I requested advise here about Oceanside Camera Repair
done by Harry Fleenor ... he did GREAT work. Everything is super smooth and sharply
accurate. He told me it takes a_half_a_day to do the job of a shutter overhaul, for $134?
That is normally about a two hour charge for work, so, a great deal IMO. And these
medium format cameras have much more resolution than any pos P/S digital cams with
much greater detail, and film is still more artistically beautiful, and can be scanned on a
decent flatbed with a light lid.

THANKS all for the good advise!

You've got me ready to send him my old Rolleicord. It works, but the
screen is dark and the shutter needs calibration.

Yes, but that's about a $300 set of two jobs though. Do you think it's worth that much?
Because you'd need a new 'Maxwell bright screen' installed which also entails readjusting
the focusing mechanism (at cost), because the the new screen is thicker, it would have to
be calibrated to "out further" from the film plane by the difference in thickness from your
screen to the new one. It is an all inclusive job. Before I sent mine in, I did remove the
whole finder and cleaned it all out myself, very carefully. You can do that too. And then,
the shutter overhaul is it's own cost.

I don't want to discourage you, but there are all these considerations, and there is about
a 12 week turn around time before you get it back!

Which model do you have, may I ask??????

A ground glass focusing screen can be much improved in brightness and
eveness by the simple addition of a drop-in plastic fresnel lens. No
change in focus. They used to be available for Rolleis for less than
$10...that would translate to less than $50 now.

I don't have the camera at hand right this minute. I researched it
about seven or eight years ago and learned it was from 1956. I don't
remember anything else about it.

Hi AAvk,

Could you give me the co-ordinates for this person. I have a Rollei
that is working fine, speeds are OK but I find everything about it
sluggish, as if all the moving parts, levers, knobs, etc, needed
lubrication; the camera seems to lack silkiness in its operation.

You can send me the information off list!

Cheers
