Dave, Bart,

I have excellent results with a commercial lens cleaner fluid
(by Cokin) and an also commercial lens cleaning paper, which is
actually a thin, very porous, fibrous tissue. The point seems to
be that dust or sand particles get stuck in the pores and are
thus removed.

The stuff is not very expensive and lasts an eternity, unless
you put dirt on your lens every day.
