I have been asked to send a photo to a company for printing. They want it at 300 dpi and I am not sure how to achieve this. Thanks in Advance |

Once you have that, you can multiply the i by the dpi to get the d. Der d-bone's connected to the i-bone... B LOL. What he is saying is: Depends on the image size you are looking for. So for a 4x6 you would need at least (6*300=1800). Andre -- ---------------------------------- http://www.aguntherphotography.com |

Thanks in Advance Generally I would always shot full resolution and rather buy one more storage card. Later you got more degrees of freedom (e.g. cropping, enhancing, large prints ...). Whatever the camera can put out you should use. Andre -- ---------------------------------- http://www.aguntherphotography.com |

What resolution do I need to set my camera at to acheive a 300 dpi or equivilent photo. Answer depends on TWO requirements. Requirement 1 (given): They want 300 dots per inch (dpi). Requirement 2 is not given (and you must ask your company for this detail): what is the actual physical size of the printed image they want? Suppose they say 6" by 4 ". So on the 6" length side, they want 6*300 = 1800 dots. On the 4" width side they want 4*300= 1200 dots. Hence your camera needs to provide them at least 1800*1200 pixels, i.e. 1.92 MPixels. So any resolution of 2MPixels or more will satisfy their requirement. You should now be able to work this out for any image size. Regards - JW |

I'm very surprised that a printing company should ask for "360 dpi" for two reasons. First of all the pixel size must be dpi x image size in inches. Secondly, printers use 1280 dpi or higher for their color seps/plates. -- Tony Morgan http://www.camcord.info |
