Simply rudeness and unhelpfulness- that's what's wrong with your post. Plus the OP wasn't asking anyone to Google for him or her. I consider it rude of people to ask such very basic questions when they've done nothing to find out for themselves. You assume waaaay too much for a neophyte photographer and rec.photo poster. -- John McWilliams |

I don't think so. You first suggested to him that he reads the manual
and then suggested that he googles for it. It would've been far more efficient had you just told him what it meant, in simply 6 words. Anyhow, the thread is clearly titled "meaning of Tv and Av". If you thought such topic was too basic you could've skipped it and concerned yourself with other stuff that interests you. I do agree with John McWilliams that your answer was unhelpful and somewhat rude. It actually registers with me as one of those redundant replies that I see often, and annoy me far more than a basic question. Nothing bugs me when I follow a thread more than someone curtly commenting "go to www.dpreview.com". I guess now I'll add "read the manual" or "you should google" to my list of redundant replies on rec.photo.digital. |

I consider it rude of people to ask such very basic questions when they've done nothing to find out for themselves. I agree with Jon. Infact, most mailing-lists/NGs/message-boards have rules saying you should've read the FAQ, done a bit of searching yourself and read older posts before you post a question. If you haven't: - Googled - Read a FAQ on the subject - Read older posts then you are a lazy bum and don't deserve a reply!! If you do get a reply, be very thankful that someone didn't tell you to do what Jon told Marcel. The other rude thing a poster does is disappear after the first post - a crime lots are guilty of. And nothing rude about telling someone to RTFM. The NG and its contributors are certainly here to help people but not those who refuse to help themselves. Another feature/rule I liked was summarising. Mailing-lists like sunmanagers have a rule saying you will summarise the best and most helpful answers to you post - makes it easier for people facing a similar issue to get the answer quickly without re-posting and going thru a dozen replies. - Siddhartha |

I do agree with John McWilliams that your answer was unhelpful and somewhat rude. Really? More rude than: "Do you think that AV could just mean aperture, and TV Time or shutter? Not rocket science is it." or "in google type define:Av in the corresponding list you will spot "Av : Aperture value .." " My reply, saying "That -should- be in your manual... And if you've lost it, such information is readily available on the web. I would encourage you to try www.google.com." Was more rude than either of those? You've got a -very- strange sense of manners. Either that, or you're just trolling. Attacking me because you've found a popular "target." -- http://www.neopets.com/refer.phtml?username=moosespet |

Kibo informs me that "Marcel" stated that:
However these are designated as Av and Tv. I never remember which is which. Can someone tell me what the Av, Tv stand for, please? The easy way to remember is that T = Time, & A = Aperture. -- W . | ,. w , "Some people are alive only because \|/ \|/ it is illegal to kill them."
