Default OT - Macs are now being significantly targeted with malware

Compared with Windows the numbers are still relatively small but they
are growing fast.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/0...rground_sales/

I'm not posting these to pull someone's chain but to let Apple users
know what is going on.

.... 2015? Seriously?

If the news is out, the fix will be in soon if not already there.

With Mac's sales rise over the past 10 years it's inevitable - esp.
given the general demographics of Mac buyers. Nothing to see here
(other than 2 year old clickbait and some fresher clickbait).

Sure you are, and we know who that might be. ;-)

but to let Apple users know what is going on.

....er, right. With reports from "The Register" article dated "5 Nov
2015", and "1 Sept 2015" along with that Dark web tale.

an outdated article discussing exploits that have long been patched and
never did much anyway. non-issue.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/0...e_underground_
sales/

that's already been patched, and as is typical with any of these, it
requires the user to intentionally download and install it. it can't
'just happen'. non-issue.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/0...oit_back_pilla
ging_keychains/

This was fixed in the OS X El Capitan beta and the latest stable
version of OS X * version 10.10.5

fixed back in yosemite, two major versions ago. the current version of
macos is sierra/10.12.3, with 10.12.4 due as soon as next week. another
non-issue.

you're posting solely to troll about things you don't understand.

the above is nothing more than linkbait. you don't own a mac and don't
know much about them and argue when those who have and use them try to
educate you. none of those has had any major (or even minor) effect on
mac users and all of them have been patched.

what those and other linkbait articles fail to state is that apple
continues to make the mac and ios *very* secure, more so than other
systems.

nothing is perfect, but the bar for mac malware is *so* high that
malware authors will target windows and android because the return on
investment is *much* higher.

this is particularly true with android, where very few users are
running the latest version and are sitting ducks.

I didn't notice the date. They popped up today via my Yahoo home page.
In any case, the situation can only have got worse in the intervening
year and a half.

of course not. you never do, nor do you understand what you read.

They popped up today via my Yahoo home page.

that explains a lot.

linkbait and you bit.

if malware is a concern at *all*, you should reconsider using yahoo in
any form.

In any case, the situation can only have got worse in the intervening
year and a half.

it hasn't.

it's actually *more* secure than it used to be because the system has
been hardened and lots of exploits have been patched.
